Eyes on Vattiyoorkavu: BJP announces R Sreelekha amidst State-wide candidate list
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: BJP is set to field R. Sreelekha as its candidate in the Vattiyoorkavu constituency, where all three political fronts are equally optimistic about winning. Reports indicate that Sreelekha, who is the councillor for Sasthamangalam, will begin her campaign by painting wall graffiti in the constituency as early as tomorrow. Prior to this decision, the names of Shobha Surendran and G. Krishnakumar were also considered for the constituency, with Shobha Surendran also being under consideration for the Palakkad seat.
The candidates for other key constituencies have already been determined, with BJP State President Rajeev Chandrasekhar set to contest in Nemom, V. Muraleedharan in Kazhakoottam, P. K. Krishnadas in Kattakkada, Kummanam Rajasekharan in Aranmula, C. Krishnakumar in Malampuzha, Sandeep Vachaspati in Chengannur, Shaun George in Pala, and Anoop Antony in Thiruvalla.
Vattiyoorkavu is a constituency where the BJP maintains high expectations for success. Although the CPI(M) secured the constituency in both the previous election and the by-election through V. K. Prasanth, the BJP finished in second place last time. In 2021, Prasanth won by a margin of 21,515 votes, securing 61,111 votes, while the BJP candidate, current Mayor V. V. Rajesh, received 39,596 votes. Furthermore, Vattiyoorkavu was one of the key constituencies in Kerala where the BJP secured a lead in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
