Upset youth commits suicide by drinking acid after hounded by loan app scamsters

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A 21-year-old youth committed suicide following the threat of online loan app scamsters. The dead has been identified as Anand (Sachu) of Aryanad. He committed suicide after being upset over sending his morphed photos to relatives and friends for failing to repay the loan.

Anand, who attempted suicide by consuming acid at his home on March 6 was rushed to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital. He died yesterday while undergoing treatment. His paternal uncle Anil Kumar said that Anand had been receiving constant threat messages after taking money from the loan app. When he failed to repay, the youth's private pictures were morphed and circulated.

Anand's family has filed a complaint with the police and the cyber cell in connection with the incident. Ward member Suresh demanded strict action against such loan apps that are claiming the lives of the youths. The Aryanad police have registered a case and started an investigation into the incident.
