BENGALURU: The rise in LPG cylinder prices has forced many eateries to go on temporary shutdown, including Bengaluru’s iconic Vidyarthi Bhavan. The news came as a big shock to locals and loyalists of the iconic eatery, as the hotel had no choice but to think about a shutdown due to a shortage of commercial LPG cylinders.

Restaurant associations in Karnataka and Maharashtra warned that more eateries will have to adopt similar procedures if the issue remains unresolved. With Iran blocking transit through the Strait of Hormuz, LPG prices in India spiked, leaving the hotel business in disarray.

According to a report by India Today, two of the four dosa tawa at Vidyarthi Bhavan have already been switched off.

The vegetarian hotel in Gandhi Bazaar, Basavanagudi, South Bengaluru, was founded in 1943 and is best known for its mouthwatering benne masala dosa. Poori saagu, strong filter coffee and an assortment of other cuisines have earned them legendary status over the years.

The hotel recently released a statement announcing that it has reduced its menu offerings and changed its hours due to the shortage. They also said the changes were made to avoid forcing the business into a complete shutdown.
