PALAKKAD: In a significant step toward inclusive education, visually impaired students are now exploring the complex world of mathematics through the power of touch. Under the aegis of the Kerala Development and Innovation Strategic Council (K-DISC) Social Enterprise and Inclusion Division, the STRIDE Assistive Maths Kits were officially distributed to students as part of the STRIDE project.

The distribution ceremony was held on the International Mathematics Day at the Helen Keller Centenary Memorial Model School in Karimpuzha, Palakkad. The event was inaugurated by K. Premkumar MLA, who presented the specialized kits to the students. This initiative was organized by K-DISC in active collaboration with the Kerala Federation of the Blind (KFB).

The STRIDE Assistive Maths Kit consists of various geometric shapes and mathematical figures manufactured at the STRIDE Maker Studio located at the Valakkayam Sarvodaya Library in Kottayam. These kits feature tactile representations of circles, squares, triangles, and other complex forms, specifically designed to help visually challenged students master mathematical concepts through physical interaction.

STRIDE is a flagship project implemented by the K-DISC Social Enterprise and Inclusion Division with the ambitious vision of transforming Kerala into India’s first Inclusive Innovation Hub by 2031. The project focuses on the indigenous production of assistive, adaptive, and cognitive devices for persons with disabilities through specialized Maker Studios.

During the keynote presentation, Robin Tommy, Executive Director of the K-DISC Social Enterprise and Inclusion Division, remarked that this initiative marks a vital milestone in Kerala's journey toward building a modern, inclusive social environment. He emphasized that tools manufactured locally through STRIDE Maker Studios provide immense confidence to children by tailoring solutions to their specific needs. He added that STRIDE is successfully creating a disability-friendly learning model that turns the goal of personalized assistive technology into a reality.

The ceremony was presided over by Karimpuzha Grama Panchayat Member M. Chandramohanan, with Sreekrishnapuram Block Panchayat President K. Ashok Kumar attending as the chief guest. Other dignitaries who spoke at the event included Helen Keller School Headmistress Noble Mary Chacko, K-DISC Program Manager Lakshmy K.J., Junior Consultant Suraj S.R., Junior Associate Amal P.S., KFB State Secretary Vinod B., KFB District President V.N.
