‘Why is she doing this to me’; Ranjith lands in trouble on third complaint, everything kept highly confidential
KOCHI: The police arrested director Ranjith in the sexual abuse case after carefully observing him. Two sexual abuse complaints were filed earlier against Ranjith, a fellow Leftist. The arrest is on the belief that if no strong action is taken this time, the government will suffer a major setback. The investigation against Ranjith was conducted secretly, knowing that if the government does not take such action now, it will be a major setback for them.
Ranjith is a very influential person, including in politics. Two complaints were earlier filed against Ranjith. The complaints filed by Bengali actress and a transgender youth reached nowhere. The director landed in trouble now after a fresh complaint was filed by the actress. The case is that he caught hold of her and then tried to kiss her in the caravan.
Ranjith has been charged with sexual assault, indecent exposure and outraging the modesty of women. If proven guilty, he could face a prison of one to five years. Ranjith was arrested while going to Idukki with his filmy friends. The officers intercepted the vehicle he was travelling in and arrested him. He was then taken to Thodupuzha police station and questioned for three hours. Ranjith asked why the actress is doing this to him. The director told police that she was constantly behaving with hatred towards him.
The actress filed a complaint with the DGP and the Kochi Central Police. The new complainant is an actress acting in the film Ranjith is directing. The complaint is that after entering the caravan without permission, Ranjith caught hold of her and tried to kiss her. When she resisted, he withdrew from the act. Ernakulam City DCP Aswathy Jiji is in charge of the investigation. The actress' statement was secretly recorded at the women's police station two days ago. The police then proceeded to arrest Ranjith. The case was registered and further proceedings were conducted secretly. The complaint was handed over to city police commissioner Kaliraj Maheshwar. Police said there is truth in the actress' statement.
