'Dhanush is a father-like figure for me, losing that friendship is my biggest loss'; Vignesh Shivan opens up
Director Vignesh Shivan, who is also the husband of actor Nayanthara, has said that he regrets losing his friendship with actor Dhanush.
Speaking in an interview with a YouTube channel during the promotions of his new film Love Insurance Kompany, Vignesh said he considers Dhanush like a father figure and feels sad about their strained relationship.
“I like Dhanush very much. His birthday is on July 28, and that is the same day my father passed away. I feel a father-like presence in him. That is how I see him,” Vignesh said.
He added, “Losing that relationship is my biggest loss. It is something that makes me feel ashamed. Somewhere, something must have gone wrong. In my life today, Dhanush is a very important person.”
Vignesh also spoke about his time working with Dhanush during the shooting of VIP. He said he was with him for nearly two years and would eat only after Dhanush had finished his meal.
“Sometimes, what happens between people cannot be understood by others,” he added.
Reports of a rift between the two became stronger after Dhanush reportedly sought compensation for the use of a three-second clip from the film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, which was produced by him, in Nayanthara’s Netflix documentary Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale.
