'He is like Yuvraj, that thought will be there in his mind'; former Indian cricketer about Sanju Samson
MUMBAI: Former Indian cricketer Virendar Sehwag has spoken about Chennai Super Kings star Sanju Samson, who is struggling to find runs in the ongoing IPL season. In an interview with a sports media outlet, Sehwag discussed Samson’s playing style and how he handles spinners. He also compared Samson to Yuvraj Singh.
"Sanju's performances at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, the home ground of the Chennai Super Kings, have not been very impressive. That thought will be there in Sanju's mind. He still has seven more games to play at this stadium, and hence, he still has opportunities to improve his record. Sanju is like Yuvraj Singh. He can hit sixes effortlessly from a standing position. When he plays his best shots, the bat lifts high. Brian Lara was also like this. However, Sanju plays very well against spinners. But in Chennai, he is not able to stay at the crease until the spinners come on," Sehwag said.
Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings have lost their first three matches of the season. They lost to Rajasthan Royals by eight wickets and to Punjab Kings by five wickets, while Royal Challengers Bengaluru defeated them by 43 runs. Fans are now worried whether the team will face a similar situation as last season, when they finished at the bottom of the points table with only four wins in 14 matches.
In the first three matches, Samson has failed to score more than a single-digit total, which has affected the team. His scores in the three matches were 6, 7, and 9. Injuries have also been a setback, as MS Dhoni and Dewald Brevis have not yet been able to play.
