CHENNAI: The pre-release event for Vignesh Shivan’s highly anticipated sci-fi rom-com, Love Insurance Kompany (LIK), took an unexpected and emotional turn this week. While the audience was buzzing for a glimpse of the "Lady Superstar," Vignesh Shivan initially teased the crowd by claiming he simply didn't have the budget to bring his wife, Nayanthara, to the event.

"I can't afford her"

Addressing the crowd, Vignesh Shivan joked about Nayanthara’s legendary status and her notorious policy of skipping promotional events.

"As a wife and a producer, she is here. But as an actress, I can't afford to invite Nayanthara to an audio launch!" he quipped, drawing laughter from the audience.

He further played with the crowd’s nerves, jokingly suggesting she might have "escaped" or left the venue early, as she often avoids the spotlight.

Hug that went viral

The tension broke when Nayanthara finally walked onto the stage with a wide smile, proving she was there to support her husband's latest directorial venture. The "mock" professional distance vanished instantly as the couple shared a long, emotional hug.

Vignesh appeared visibly moved, and at one point, Nayanthara was seen rubbing his back to calm his nerves. The moment served as a heartwarming reminder of their partnership, both as a couple and as co-producers under their banner, Rowdy Pictures.

From ₹250 to Superstar Status

The director also got vulnerable, reflecting on his early struggles. He recalled a time during the making of Naanum Rowdy Dhaan when he was down to his last ₹250—just enough for a bus ticket. He used the story to contrast his humble beginnings with the massive scale of LIK, which features Pradeep Ranganathan, Krithi Shetty, and SJ Suryah.
