CBSE grants three-month age relaxation for class I admissions
KOCHI: While the minimum age for admission to Class 1 remains six years, CBSE officials have announced that students who are within three months of reaching that age will be granted a relaxation. This clarification was provided by Examination Controller Sanyam Bhardwaj and Affiliation Joint Secretary Jaiprakash Chaturvedi during a meeting of school managements and principals organized by the Council of CBSE Schools Kerala (CCSK).
The officials reiterated that the six-year requirement is in strict accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP) and the Right to Education (RTE) Act. This new flexibility is specifically intended to resolve logistical challenges arising from the varying academic calendars across different states, such as Kerala.
Regarding senior levels, the CBSE has not established a specific age limit for appearing in Class 10 and 12 Board examinations. The officials noted that the Board continues to follow a flexible approach in this area, operating under the principle that age is not a decisive factor in a student's academic performance.
