Man accused of rape and murder of minor niece killed in encounter

GHAZIABAD: The police killed a man, accused of raping and murdering his four-year-old niece, in an encounter. The incident happened at Ghaziabad in UP. The dead has been identified as Jasim alias Chhotu. He was absconding. Authorities said that during the encounter that ensued while arresting the accused, Chhotu fired at the police and they had to return fire in self-defense. Two constables were also injured in the incident.

He lured the girl by giving sweets, then raped and strangled her to death. He later hid the body under a car in Shalimar Garden. The investigation for him intensified after CCTV footage of the accused walking with the child was received.
