Ten Indians who joined Russian army died fighting Ukraine war
MOSCOW: The central government has said that ten Indians who joined the Russian army and fought in the war with Ukraine were killed. Their families had filed a petition in the Supreme Court, stating that there was no information about the 26 Indians who went to Russia. In response to this, the central government has presented the figures in the Supreme Court.
A bench comprising Chief Justice Suryakant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice Vipul Pancholi considered the plea. Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati, who appeared for the central government, clarified the figures in the court.
Earlier, the court had sought the central government's response on the matter. Aishwarya Bhati informed the court that ten of the 26 people mentioned in the petition were killed. Most of the dead had voluntarily joined the Russian army. She also told the Supreme Court that a few were duped by agents by promising jobs.
The government had also informed the same in response to questions from MPs in the early hours of Parliament. These 26 people joined the Russian army of their own free will.
A total of 215 people has joined the Russian army in this way. All the bodies received have been brought back to the country under the leadership of the embassy. However, the government informed the Supreme Court that the government could not hand over the bodies due to the non-cooperation of their family members.
