Punjab Kings rewrite history with the highest-ever T20 run chase of 265 vs Delhi Capitals
NEW DELHI: Punjab Kings produced one of the greatest chases in T20 history, successfully hunting down a massive 265-run target against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday. Punjab sealed a stunning six-wicket victory with seven balls to spare.
The chase of 265/4 is now the highest successful run chase in both IPL and overall T20 history, surpassing Punjab’s previous record of 262 against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2024.
Earlier, Delhi posted a daunting 264/2, powered by a sensational unbeaten 152 from KL Rahul, the highest individual score by an Indian in IPL history and the third-highest overall. Rahul, who struck 16 fours and 9 sixes in his 67-ball innings, shared a massive 220-run partnership with Nitish Rana, who contributed a quickfire 91 off 44 balls.
Punjab Kings responded with an explosive start. Prabhsimran Singh (76 off 26) and Priyansh Arya (43 off 17) powered the team to 116 runs in the powerplay, setting the tone for the chase.
Despite losing wickets in the middle overs, captain Shreyas Iyer held the innings together with a composed unbeaten 71 off 36 balls. With support from Nehal Wadhera (25), Iyer guided Punjab to a historic win.
The defeat is a major setback for Delhi Capitals’ bowling unit, while Punjab Kings continue their unbeaten run this season, firmly sitting at the top of the points table.
