‘Armed forces will remain a shield for the nation’: will strengthen UAE's defense capabilities, says President Sheikh Mohammed
DUBAI: UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan said that strengthening defence capabilities will continue to be a key priority for the United Arab Emirates. He was speaking to the nation on the 50th anniversary of the unification of the UAE Armed Forces.
His remarks come against the backdrop of reported missile and drone attacks by Iran, which UAE forces have successfully intercepted. Praising the military, he said the country is proud of its forces for “bravely and efficiently responding to attacks targeting civilian areas.”
Calling the unification of the armed forces on May 6, 1976, a turning point, he said it marked “a historic moment in the nation’s journey.” He credited the vision of the founding father, Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, along with other leaders, for building a strong and capable military. Highlighting the role of modern defence systems, he said, “advanced capabilities and strategic planning have enabled the UAE to effectively counter emerging threats.”
The President said that the armed forces will continue to play a crucial role in national security. “Our armed forces will remain a shield to safeguard the nation’s future,” he said, adding that the UAE “will firmly respond to any threat to its sovereignty and the safety of its people.”
Paying tribute to fallen soldiers, he noted that “the strength of the UAE lies in its unity and its people,” and expressed confidence that the country’s development will move forward despite regional challenges.
