Kerala reports highest spike of 6477 COVID-19 cases on Friday, 6131 cases through contact; 3481 recoveries

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala recorded 6477 cases of COVID-19 on Friday, health minister KK Shailaja informed. This is the highest single-day spike in the state. Among the new cases, 6131 persons developed the disease through contact including 713 cases without an identified source of infection. 58 persons that returned from abroad and 198 persons that came from other states tested positive for the disease in the past 24 hours. 80 health workers also tested positive for the virus in the past 24 hours.

3481 coronavirus patients tested negative for the virus in the past 24 hours. There are 48,892 active cases in the state.

The state reported 22 COVID deaths on Friday taking the toll to 635.

In the last 24 hours, 56,057 samples were tested.

Currently, there are 652 hotspots in the state with the addition of 12 regions and the removal of 14.
