16 lakh cases pending probe in Kerala, Justice Ramachandran Nair Commission wants strong legislation to control criminals

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Justice Ramachandran Nair Commission recommended strong intervention in controlling criminals. There are almost 16 lakh cases pending cases in Kerala. Special arrangements are required to complete pending cases and FIR should be fully electronic are some of the recommendations. The report also asserted that in Kerala eight and a half lakh cases are reported every year and that there is no scientific system to prove them.

Other directions
Modernization of Fingerprint Verification Bureau, mobile forensic labs in all districts, complete digitization of case diaries, prisoners jumping jail should be housed separately and a location marker should be affixed to such inmates, CCTV cameras in all jails, defendants should not be taken to court except for trial, state level committee to recommend release of prisoners, law and order and investigation in all police stations should be divided into two, police should be given the right to make orders under the Goonda Act, corrupted and incompetent officials should be sacked, strong legislation to control criminals, goonda act should be amended for it, legislation similar to Karnataka and Maharashtra model to control regulate quotation groups.
