COVID-19: Kerala reports 5490 new cases on Thursday; 4911 cases through contact, 19 deaths

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state confirmed 5490 COVID-19 cases on Thursday, Health Minister KK Shailaja said. Among these, 4911 persons developed the disease through contact including 435 cases without an identified source of infection. Three persons tested positive for the UK variant of the virus. 92 persons who came from outside the state also tested positive for the virus. 52 health workers tested positive for the virus on Thursday.

Meanwhile, 4337 patients tested negative for the virus today. As of now, there are 66,503 active cases in the state.

The state confirmed 19 deaths due to the virus on Thursday with the toll rising to 3392.

In the last 24 hours, 67,712 samples have been tested. The test positivity rate stands at 8.11.

With the addition of 6 new regions and the removal of 13, there are 420 hotspots in the state.
