Woman attacked in train: Four more persons arrested

KOCHI: Police have arrested two more people who helped Babukuttan, the accused who attacked a woman on a passenger train. The two were arrested for helping Babukuttan to abscond and sell the gold stolen from the woman. With this, four persons besides Babukuttan were arrested in this case.

The arrested accused have been identified as Pradeep(34), Suresh(44), Muthu (22), and Achu (20). Pradeep and Muthu were arrested on Friday. The woman's necklace and bangles were sold to a jewelry shop in Varkala by Achu and Muthu. Police have recovered the woman's bag from Suresh's house.

Before going into hiding, Babukuttan had handed over the necklace and bangles to Pradeep. Muthu and Achu sold these and handed over Rs 60,000 to Suresh. Rs 19,500 was handed over to Babukuttan. The rest of the money was distributed to everyone by Suresh. Babukuttan and Pradeep have been close for years and had served jail sentences together. That was why he went straight to Varkala after the incident.

The Railway Police will file an application tomorrow to take the main accused Babukuttan in custody. The police are planning to take him to Mulanthuruthy to collect evidence as soon as they get him in their custody. Babukuttan attacked the woman in Guruvayur-Punalur express on April 28 morning.
