Second wave of Covid in Kerala is past its peak, positive signs are there: CM Vijayan

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan told the media that the intensity of Covid spread in the state is decreasing. Triple lockdowns are successful in four districts. Test positivity rate is decreasing. He further added that experts believe that the second wave is past its peak.

There are some positive signs in the state. From May 1 to May 8, there were an average of 37,144 cases a day. But in the week since the lockdown began, it has dropped to 35,919.

At that stage, 8 districts recorded a decline of 10 to 30 per cent. The lowest decline was in Wayanad district. Outbreaks appear to remain consistent in Pathanamthitta. The number of cases is increasing in Kollam, Malappuram, Thiruvananthapuram and Palakkad districts. In Kollam there is an increase of 23%.

The slight decrease in active cases is a relief. It is currently down to 3,62,315. He added that the effectiveness of the lockdown will be known in the coming weeks.
