High Court rejects plea challenging Lakshadweep administrative reforms

KOCHI: The Kerala High Court rejected the public interest litigation challenging the Lakshadweep administrations reforms. A division bench of the Kerala High Court rejected the plea filed by KPCC office bearer Noushadali questioning the draft regulations of Lakshadweep Development Authority. The court observed that only a draft of the administrative reform proposals is presently available.

The plaintiff also sought an immediate stay on the administrative reforms. However, the court did not allow it. Instead, sent a letter to centre and Lakshadweep administration seeking an explanation. Lakshadweep Administration explained in the court that the reforms are being executed only in the first phase and that a decision on the reforms would be taken after considering the views of the people.

The plea was considered by a bench led by Justice L P Bhatia. The court will consider Ayesha Sultana's anticipatory bail plea in the afternoon. The Lakshadweep government told the court that Ayesha Sultana’s reference to ‘bio-weapon’ was an attempt to incite hatred against the government.
