Ease on curbs for Bakrid; SC rejects Kerala's demand seeking time to reply, will consider as first case tomorrow

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court directed the state government to give a reply today itself on the plea seeking cancellation of the relaxations given in view of Bakrid in Kerala. The Supreme Court did not accept government's demand seeking time to respond to the plea. The Supreme Court directed the standing council to file an affidavit today itself.


The court did not consider Kerala's demand seeking more time to explain. A bench headed by Justice R F Nariman decided to consider the matter as first case tomorrow. The state government told the Supreme Court that they would adhere to Covid norms.

The plaintiff's lawyer told the court that Kerala has the highest number of Covid victims in the country. The plea was filed by P K D Nambiar, a businessman in New Delhi, against easing of curbs in view of Bakrid. The government permitted all shops to open on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday as part of Bakrid.
