Covid vaccine for children by next month, Covaxin in last phase of trial

NEW DELHI: The center shared the hope that Covid vaccine for children in the country will be supplied by next month. This was announced by Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya at the BJP parliamentary party meeting here. The health minister made the announcement at a meeting attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Bharat Biotech's Covaxin is presently being tested on children between the ages of two to six. Delhi AIIMS director Dr Randeep Guleria had informed last week that he hoped the results would be available by September.

The DCGI approved the testing of vaccine in children on May 12. Permission was granted for two and three phase of trials. Delhi AIIMS began selecting children between the ages of two to 17 on June 7. The children were divided into groups according to their age. A total of 175 children will be tested. An interim report will then be released. It will then be known whether the vaccine is effective for children.

In addition to Covaxin, Zydus Cadila's candidate are testing vaccines for children. The trials are underway.
