NEW DELHI: A recent report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) warned that several Indian cities, including Kochi, are likely to go three feet underwater by the end of the century due to the rising sea level caused by climate change.

As per the report, 12 coastal cities in the country will get submerged in seawater by the end of this century. These cities are Kochi, Mangalore, Mumbai, Visakhapatnam, Chennai, Thoothukudi, Kandla, Okha, Bhavnagar, Mormugao, Paradeep and Khidirpur.

Experts warned that the situation could worsen if appropriate steps are not taken in this regard. A report released yesterday pointed out that phenomena including global warming as part of climate change could have serious impacts on the Earth. According to the report, rising temperatures could lead to melting of ice and rising sea levels. The report stated this could pose a threat to humanity itself.
