Kerala’s own army lands in Aluva, district administration takes precautions although sure 2018 will not be repeated

KOCHI: Kerala’s Army, this name was given to fishermen struggling to make ends meet after saving many lives in the 2018 floods. Although there is not much to fear like 2018, the district administration has brought the fishermen to low lying areas of Ernakulam. This preparation is in the background of raising the three shutters of the Cheruthoni dam with the rising water level in Idukki dam. Excess water from Idukki is expected to reach Aluva by evening through Periyar. Today, only one tenth of the water released in 2018 has been released from Idukki. Therefore, the government hopes that there will be no danger.

The fishermen are ready with ten boats in the low-lying areas of Aluva, which were flooded during the 2018 floods. More boats and fishermen will reach here if needed. The fishermen have been brought from Chellanam, Vipin, Kalamukku and Kannamali. In the event of a flood, they will immediately rescue people by taking them in boats. After saving hundreds of lives at the risk of their own lives in the 2018 floods, the chief minister addressed the fishermen as Kerala's own army. Since then, the government has often sought the services of the fishermen in view of the risk of floods.
