Swapna gets bail in gold smuggling case after a year of arrest

KOCHI: Swapna Suresh, arrested in the diplomatic gold smuggling case, has been granted bail. The Kerala High Court granted bail while considering her plea against the NIA Court verdict. With this, others including Swapna will be released from jail. Swapna will be out from jail after one year of arrest.

Swapna was earlier granted bail in the customs and ED cases. Other accused in the case-- Sarith, Rabins, Muhammed Shafi and M M Jalal were also granted bail. Bail is given on a bond of Rs 25 lakh. The court observed that UAPA will not exist in the case. Swapna and Sarith will be released from jail soon as their preventive detention has ended. The preventive detention of others will end this month. This is the first gold smuggling case registered by the NIA in the country.
