THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The letter written by Kerala University Vice-Chancellor to the Governor rejecting the latter's recommendation to confer an honorary D.Litt on the President had stirred a controversy. In his letter, Vice-Chancellor VP Mahadevan Pillai had stated that he had discussed the Governor's recommendation with some syndicate members and that they rejected the recommendation. Later, Governor Arif Mohammad Khan came down heavily on the Vice-Chancellor saying that he could not write two sentences properly.

Now, Vice-Chancellor Mahadevan Pillai has penned a note defending his action. “I have remained cautious in ensuring that the grammar and spelling of my life did not go wrong. I am a normal person whose hands shiver when the mind is disturbed. I do not consider this normalcy as a flaw. I have taken great care to imbibe the valuable lessons taught by my teachers and mentors. I don't want to make any further statements,” the Vice-Chancellor wrote in Malayalam.
