Youth commits suicide after wife lodges domestic violence complaint; youth's father sets himself ablaze

NEDUMBASSERY: A youth, who was named an accused in a domestic violence case lodged by his wife, committed suicide by setting himself on fire. Upon learning the news, the youth's father went to the daughter-in-law's house and committed suicide by setting himself ablaze. The deceased have been identified as Kalady native Anto (32) and his father Antony (70). Anto set himself on fire on a road near the Sivajipuram-Thuravoor region. Though he was rushed to a private hospital in Angamaly, he died by around 4 pm. After learning about it, Antony rushed to his daughter-in-law Niya's house in Kunnukara and committed suicide. He died on the spot.

Anto, who was working abroad, returned to Kerala some months back. His wife, Nia, who had gone to her own home, had not returned for nine months following an argument with Anto. Meanwhile, Niya lodged a complaint with the Chengamanadu police against Anto and his family, alleging that they were not protecting the children and were mentally torturing her. The police then registered a case against Anto and his mother Elsy. According to police, Anto might have committed suicide due to a mental crisis caused by the case.
