17-year-old girl kills herself after an hour long phone conversation with lover, youth to be questioned

PATHANAPURAM: The Kunnicode police will question a youth in connection with the suicide of a 17-year-old girl following a prolonged phone conversation with her relative cum lover. The girl has been identified as Anjali (17), daughter of late Aji and Lathika of Pattazhy Kannimel Mavilamelathil. The incident happened on Monday morning.

The girl’s mother, a cashew nut worker had gone for work. The girl was in love with the Kalayapuram native. Her family was in favour of their relationship. After a one-hour long conversation with her lover, she locked her room and hanged herself to death using a shawl. On hearing a sound, her brother Adithyan along with neighbours rushed and took her to the hospital but her life could not be saved.

The police have taken the girl’s mobile phone into custody. The body was handed over to the girl’s family after post-mortem at Parippally Medical College and cremated. The investigation is being led by Kunnicode police station house officer Mubarak.
