Government to purchase new Benz car worth over Rs 85 lakh for governor, issues order

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government has accepted the proposal of governor Arif Mohammad Khan to buy a new Benz car to be used as his official vehicle. The government has ordered the purchase of a Benz GLE worth Rs 85.18 lakh.

Two years ago, the governor ordered the replacement of a 10-year-old car that had run 1.5 million kilometres. There was a great deal of discussion on this subject. The governor is currently using a 12-year-old Benz car. According to the VIP protocol, a vehicle must be changed after driving more than one lakh kilometers.

The governor had responded that he had not asked his vehicle to be replaced and he is currently using his wife's vehicle. He added that the government could decide on the new vehicle. Following this, the order was issued today.
