Nadira to create history; transwoman named chairperson candidate in Kalady University

KOCHI: Nadira Mehrin, who has always kept her head high in the face of ridicule and social ostracism, has been named AISF's chairperson candidate in the Kalady University Union elections. For the first time in the history of the nation, a transwoman will be leading the panel. Nadira, a member of the AISF State Committee, is also the state joint convener of the Akshita Vidyarthi Vedhi, a women's wing.

Nadira was not able to identify with the gender that was assigned to her even when she was a child. She finally gained the strength to come out at the age of 17. Although she was kicked out of her house, she continued to study with the help of the transgender community. She also won scholarships. She earned money by doing small jobs. After doing journalism, she became a post-graduate degree holder in Political Science from University College in Thiruvananthapuram. Nadira is currently doing her second PG in MA Theatre at Kalady University.

Nadira is also active as a model, activist, presenter, actress and politician. She played a transgender person in the film 'Freedom Fight' directed by Jeo Baby.

Nadira wants to contest for parliament election
Nadira's dream is to become a Member of Parliament. She wants to do a PhD, be active in politics and work for the betterment of the trans community.
