Double murder in Palakkad: All party meet tomorrow, prohibitory orders continue in district

PALAKKAD: District Collector Mrunmai Joshi called an all-party meeting after two murders shook Palakkad in 24 hours. The meeting will be held at 3.30 pm tomorrow under the chairmanship of Minister K Krishnan Kutty at the Collectorate Conference Hall.

Popular Front and RSS activists were killed. The collector requested both parties to attend the meeting. Meantime, a high level meeting convened by additional DGP Vijay Sakhare, in charge of law and order, is progressing in Palakkad. Prohibitory orders imposed in the district following the murders are continuing in the district.

Sreenivasan, RSS leader and former Sharirik Shikshan Pramukh, was killed yesterday. He was attacked by six who came in two bikes and a scooter. He was hacked by the group after barging into his shop at 1 pm in the afternoon. The BJP leaders alleged that the SDPI was behind the killing and that the police did nothing to stop the attackers.

Srinivasan was killed shortly after the killing of SDPI activist Subair. Popular Front area president Subair, was allegedly hit by a car while returning in his bike from the mosque with his father and attacked using sharp-edged weapons at Elappully in the district. Subair’s father suffered injuries after falling from the bike and has been admitted to a hospital. The SDPI had alleged that RSS was behind his murder. The police mentioned it as a political murder in the FIR.
