THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Government of Kerala is ready to study the Gujarat model of development. A team led by chief secretary V P Joy will leave for Ahmedabad this afternoon to study in detail about the implementation of projects. The team will hold talks with the Gujarat officials tomorrow. The official explanation is that the trip is to study the dashboard system implemented by Gujarat for the coordination of big projects. The proposal for the dashboard was raised during a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The LDF had earlier said that Kerala does not need to set an example from Gujarat and that the development there is just a media creation. It is from this stand that they have gone back. Shibu Baby John while serving as a minister in the UDF cabinet had met the then Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and discussed development issues and this had stoked a controversy then. The issue was hotly debated by the opposition LDF.

A P Abdullakutty had to leave the CPM after he said that Kerala should follow the development policies of Modi in Gujarat. Abdullakutty then joined the Congress and had to leave from the party in the name of praising Modi.
