Death of woman and children in Alappuzha: Husband Renees arrested

ALAPPUZHA: A police officer, who is the husband of a woman who committed suicide after killing her children at the quarters in AR camp, has been arrested. Renees, the arrested civil police officer at the Vandanam Medical College outpost, was in police custody from yesterday following the deaths of his wife Najla and children Tipu Sulthan and Malala. Police have received digital evidence that he had abused Najla. They were found dead on Tuesday in the quarters near the AR camp in Alappuzha.

Najla's sister Nafla told a private channel that Renees is responsible for the deaths of Najla and her children. "Renees had mentally and physically abused her. Renees did not allow her to speak to relatives. He was having an affair with another woman. Renees and Najla had been arguing over WhatsApp chats", she said.

Colleagues say Renee and his wife fought and that he used to abuse his wife. Renee's relatives recently intervened and settled the matter at the district police chief's office. But the harassment is said to have continued after this.

The woman and her children were found dead yesterday. Malala was drowned and Tipu Sultan was strangled to death with a pillow. Najla was found hanging from a fan.
