KOCHI: CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has come up with an explanation for the LDF's defeat in the Thrikkakkara by-election. 'Accepting people's verdict. I don't think that we've lost everything with this defeat. LDF was not able to make the expected progress. However, the foundation of the party has not been shattered," Kodiyeri said.

"LDF gained 2244 more votes compared to the previous election. Thrikkakkara is the fort of UDF. The UDF brought the anti-left forces together. The UDF got votes from the BJP as well as Twenty20. The party intends to continue its activities by accepting the verdict of the people. The party will check the defeat and take necessary corrective action," he said.

"LDF was not able to make progress in Ernakulam as it did in other districts. We will examine why. We are seeing this election result as a warning to work cautiously. We will make necessary corrections. Although there has been an increase in the votes gained by the LDF, this increase is not enough considering the work we've done there," he added.
