Japanese former PM Shinzo Abe dies after being shot at

TOKYO: Japanese former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe died on Friday after being shot twice during a campaign event in Nara. Reports said that he was showing no vital signs when he was taken to the hospital.

Abe (67) was delivering a stump speech near a train station in Nara when he shot by the assailant. He was holding his chest when he collapsed with his shirt smeared with blood. He was bleeding from the neck and he underwent transfusions.

The man believed to be the assailant was taken into custody. He has been identified as Tetsuya Yamagami aged 41.
