COLOMBO: Thousands of protestors have stormed into Sri Lanka’s beleaguered President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s official residence in Colombo. According to some regional media reports, the president has fled the country.

In the wake of the protests, the curfew announced last day has been lifted. Reports suggest that the gates and windows of the president’s official residence have been destroyed. So far, numerous people have sustained injuries in the country-wide protests.

The protests in Sri Lanka, demanding the resignation of the president, began after food shortage and fuel crisis worsened in the country. Earlier, Mahinda Rajapaksa had stepped down as prime minister following protests.
