National awards to be announced today; Suriya competes for best actor honour, Ayyappanum Koshyum vie for top film awards

NEW DELHI: The 68th national film awards will be announced at 4 am today. The winners will be announced at the press meet held at the National Media Centre in New Delhi. Soorarai Pottru which had Surya and Aparna Balamurali in the lead roles is in the list for the best film. Reports said Malayalam films Ayyappanum Koshyum and Malik are among the movies that vie for the top film awards.

Biju Menon is being considered for the best supporting actor award for his performance in Ayyappanum Koshyum. Suriya and Aparna Balamurali are likely to win the best actors award. Ajay Devgan is also in the list of best actors.

The Malayalees had achieved success in the last national award announcements. 'Marakaar: The Lion of the Arabian Sea' directed by Priyadarshan won the best film award. Girish Gangadharan won the best cinematography award.
