OREGON: India's Neeraj Chopra made history by winning a silver medal in javelin throw at the World Athletics Championships. His throw of 88.13 m in the final made him the first Indian athlete to win a silver medal in the history of the World Athletics Championships.

Granada's world champion Anderson Peters won the first place with a throw of 90.54 m. Czech Republic's Jakub Vadlejch won bronze with a throw of 88.09 m. Neeraj, whose first attempt was fouled, threw 88.13 meters in the fourth attempt and achieved the historic achievement.

This is India's second medal in world athletics after Malayalam athlete Anju Bobby George. Chopra became only the second Indian to win a medal at the World Athletics Championships, after long jumper Anju Bobby George won bronze in 2003 at the Paris World Championship after jumping 6.70m.
