Techie turns to theft after being sacked, nabbed during gold theft

CHENNAI: An engineering graduate, who lost his job recently and turned to theft, was arrested in Korattur, Tamil Nadu. The arrested has been identified as 25-year-old Prem Kumar, a native of Munnar, Kerala. Kumar, who had been working in a tech firm in Ambattur, lost his job a few months back.

Following which, the youth went into severe financial crisis, forcing him to turn a robber. On last Wednesday, he went to a jewellery shop on MTH Road in Padi and spent an hour looking at the ornaments. He asked the staff to show him several chains and bracelets, creating the impression of a customer. Later, while no one was looking, he slipped a gold chain into his pocket and left the shop promising to return with his mother.

However, the staff, who came to notice that the chain was missing, lodged a complaint with the police along with CCTV footage. Soon after, the Korattur police arrested Prem Kumar. He has been remanded in judicial custody.
