THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The governor's new move has put the government on the backfoot while trying to bring a new ordinance n the appointment of vice-chancellors of universities. The governor formed a search committee for the appointment of Kerala VC. The search committee was constituted after excluding the university nominee. Raj Bhavan's move comes at a time when the government is trying to pass an ordinance to usurp the governor's power in the search committee to make a person of interest as VC.

The governor's nominee to the search committee is Dr Debashish Chatterjee, director of IIM Kozhikode. The UGC nominee is Central University of Karnataka VC Prof. Batu Satyanarayana. Planning Board Vice Chairman VK Ramachandran was earlier decided as the university's nominee, but the university informed the governor that he withdrew himself. The move of the government and the university was to wait until the ordinance. The new order of the governor came all of a sudden.
