Son arrested for robbery in priest's house; police shocked to know the reason

KOTTAYAM: The police have arrested the accused in the robbery at the house of priest Fr Jacob Ninan. The arrested person is priest's elder son Shaino Ninan. He told the police that he was facing financial difficulties and had to rob from his own house as a solution. After the robbery, all the money was kept in the company run by Shaino, which was near the house. The police found the money from here. They also found the stolen gold buried in a small pot. Shaino was brought home and to collect the evidence.

The robbery took place on Tuesday evening when the priest and his wife Sally were on their way to church. 48 sovereigns of gold jewels and Rs 80,000 were stolen. Out of this, 21 sovereigns were found in the alley adjacent to the house. The accused opened the cupboard using the key kept under the bed and stole money and jewellery. As soon as they found a part of the stolen gold from the alley near the house, the police came to the conclusion that regular thieves were not behind the theft. It was also found that people close to the house were behind the crime. In the investigation followed, Shaino who had several financial liablities were arrested.
