Appointment of Priya Varghese: VC to move court against governor's order

KANNUR: Gopinath Ravindran, Vice-Chancellor of Kannur University, said that he will have to approach the court against the action of the governor who froze the appointment process of Priya Varghese. Governor Arif Muhammed Khan has frozen the appointment to the post of Malayalam Associate Professor in the university using the power of the Chancellor.

"Since tomorrow is a holiday, further action will be taken the next day. The decision is to face it legally", Gopinath Ravindran informed. Governor Arif Mohammad Khan issued an order staying the proceedings of appointing Priya Varghese, wife of Chief Minister's Private Secretary KK Ragesh, as an Associate Professor in Kannur University. The governor had earlier said that he would not accept nepotism as long as he is the chancellor. He said that violations of the rules will not be allowed. It is reported that there is a possibility that the rank list may be cancelled. Kannur University VC Dr Gopinath Ravindran has also been issued a show cause notice after freezing the appointment.
