Buffer zone: Kerala files review petition

NEW DELHI: Kerala has filed a review petition against the Supreme Court order envisaging one kilometre of Eco-Sensitivity Zone (ESZ) or buffer zone around all protected forests. This is the first review petition against the judgment issued on June 3. In the petition, the Chief Secretary pointed out that the right to life will be adversely affected if the verdict is implemented. The petition, which pointed out that a buffer zone is impractical in densely populated Kerala, added that the verdict has created insecurity in Wayanad and Idukki districts.
