Rishi Sunak gearing up for contest to become next PM of Britain; gets support of 128 Conservative Party members

LONDON: Indian origin, Rishi Sunak, has officially announced that he would run for the contest to become UK’s next Prime Minister. He is contesting after the PM seat fell vacant following Liz Truss’s resignation. Sunak has already garnered the support of 128 Conservative members paving way for his candidature to contest.

Though there are discussions about Boris Johnson entering the fray, no official announcement has been made. Some media are reporting that the contest might be three-way with Boris Johnson and Penny Mordaunt also contesting to become the party leader and the PM of the country.

Rishi Sunak tweeted that the United Kingdom is a great country but is facing a profound economic crisis. He added that he is contesting to keep the party united and to fix the economy.

He also pointed out he has the answers to fix the problems faced by the United Kingdom and presented his 2019 election manifesto and said that he will deliver on the promises made in his manifesto.
