Sri Lankan Navy arrests 15 fishermen hailing from Rameswaram

RAMESWARAM: Fifteen Indian fishermen were arrested by Sri Lankan Navy hailing from Rameswaram. They were apprehended for violating the international sea limits. The Navy also confiscated two fishing trawlers.

The arrested fishermen had gone to sea on Saturday with four hundred trawlers. However, when they crossed the sea limit at Thalaimannar, the Sri Lankan Navy confiscated the trawlers and arrested the fishermen.

Meanwhile, following the arrests, the community of fishermen in Rameswaram came out in protests. Ten days ago, in a similar incident, seven fishermen were arrested by the Sri Lankan navy.
