KANNUR: A bride and groom who flew from Russia to Kannur to celebrate their honeymoon go to the farm in the morning hand with a hoe in hand. They then start sprinkling dung and chicken manure with their hands without any hesitation. Russian couple Bogdan Dvorovy and Aleksadria are enjoying their time here by planting spinach and lentils, and weeding.

It was their love for organic farming that brought Dvorovy and Aleksadria from St. Petersburg to Adikadalayi, a small village in Kannur. The couple, who got married two months ago, reached Kannur two weeks ago. They will return to Russia in March after harvesting.

Both Dvorovy and Aleksadria are graduates. They met while travelling, fell in love and got married. Their aim is to travel to different countries and study different kinds of agriculture.

It was EV Harris, an organic farmer in Adikadalayi, who invited the couple to his village. Harris had registered his farm on the website Worldwide Opportunities on Organic Farms India. That's how the Russian couple found out about his farm. When they called Harris to inquire, he told them that he could provide accommodation in a small portion of his house and teach them organic farming. The couple flew to Kannur within a week. Harris has been farming organically for 15 years.

At six in the morning, Dvorovy and Aleksadria will go to the farm carrying hoes. They then spend time there till 10 am watering the garden and tending the crops. Both of them plant and tend the seedlings of lentils, okra, green chillies, spinach and ginger. Dosa is Dvorovy's favourite dish, while Aleksadria likes upma.
