Husband hacks wife to death in broad daylight; accused admitted in hospital after suicide attempt

NAGERCOIL: A husband hacked his wife to death in the middle of the road at Thakkala in Kanyakumari district. The incident happened around 11 pm. After the incident, the husband went home and tried to commit suicide by taking sleeping pills and is undergoing treatment in the hospital.

Ebenezer (35), a resident of Thakkala killed his wife Jeba Bernisha (31). They have two children, Jeba Shobhan (14) and Jeba Akash (13). Ebenezer is a tempo driver. Bernisha has been studying a beautician course at a private institution in Thiruvananthapuram for the past three months. She used to go to Thiruvananthapuram every day by train.

The couple used to fight constantly over the change in Bernisha's dressing style after she went to study the beautician course. Bernisha's father Jeba Singh called them to his house in Moolachal to settle the matter. After this, the couple got off together to go home, but on the road, there argued again. Enraged by this, Ebenezer hacked Bernisha with a sickle hidden inside his shirt.

By the time the locals heard Bernisha's screams, Ebenezer had escaped. Bernisha died on the spot after being injured on the head. Thakkala police reached the spot and took the body for inquest in medical college.

The accused who is admitted in a hospital will be arrested as soon as he leaves hospital. Thakkala police has registered case in the incident.
