THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPM which expected to spotlight corruption and wrong tendencies in the party through rectification document has suffered a blow. Allegations of financial irregularities against EP Jayarajan’s Ayurveda resort and complaints of EP supporters against P Jayarajan has brought the party to the verge of factionalism.

To prevent this from spreading, the state leadership is planning for a party-level enquiry against EP Jayarajan. The state secretariat meeting on Friday is likely to appoint the commission.

Complaints against P Jayarajan about the quotation links and fund irregularities in Vadakara Parliament election have flocked to the leadership. They are also compelled to investigate this.

Although Jayarajan is a Central Committee member, the enquiry can be conducted here and the permission of the Central Committee is needed for the final decision. Suspecting a planned move by the state committee leadership, EP may come to the secretariat meeting on Friday and explain the matter. His stance is that these are allegations that were dismissed earlier. There were rumors that he will step down as LDF convenor but EP is not likely to agree.

EP also views P Jayarajan’s visit to CM’s house with suspicion. He didn’t attend any programs participated by CM in Kannur. Although P Jayarajan said in the state committee meeting that he will submit the allegations in writing, he hasn’t done so. Since it is an allegation raised in the state committee meeting, the party can also investigate otherwise.

During VS-Pinarayi conflict, their stance in several issues were pointed out as the reason for the rift. But now P Jayarajan has raised allegation against EP in the rectification document. The supporters of EP is trying to prove that P Jayarajan is also corrupted.

Some believe that this is part of the rift that exists between the party leaders of Kannur. It is alleged that the resort’s former MD had handed over documents related to the allegation following a clash with EP.

The accusation also came as a shock to EP Jayarajan. They also talked over the phone as the controversy over the allegations intensified.

What follows:

  1. The UDF intensified its political attack. BJP wants to trap CPM like in gold smuggling case and ED investigation demand by Union Minister V. Muralidharan indicates this.
  2. EP Jayarajan may have to resign from the post of LDF Convenor if the party conducts its own enquiry and finds fault.
  3. Discussions about who’s next are active in CPM camps. Youth leader M Swaraj’s name has also come up.
