Iyer returns after two years, No Sanju Samson in squad; BCCI announces Indian squad for Afghan series

NEW DELHI: The Indian squad for the Test match against Afghanistan to be held on June 6 and the three-match series was announced on Tuesday. Shubman Gill retained the captaincy role. Though it was expected that the selectors might pick Malayali star Sanju Samson, it did not happen. KL Rahul will be the vice-captain in place of Rishabh Pant in the ODI team. Rishabh Pant is also included in the team. Shreyas Iyer, who was out of the team for two years, returns to the squad following his impeccable form in the IPL.

Senior players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were included in the ODI squad. However, the selection of Rohit and Hardik Pandya will be subject to the BCCI's fitness protocols. Harsh Dubey, Gurnoor Brar and Prince Yadav, who shone in the IPL, have also been included in the ODI squad. Gurnoor and Harsh have also been included in the Test squad. Meanwhile, pacer Jasprit Bumrah did not find a place in the team. Along with him, Ravindra Jadeja has not been included in the team. It is reported that Bumrah and Jadeja have been rested.
