KOCHI: An agreement has been reached to conduct elections within three months in AMMA, the association of Malayalam film actors. Until the elections are held, the current executive committee will continue to function, as the term of the ad hoc committee has ended. The elections will be held based on a proposal by Mohanlal. The decision to conduct the election was made during AMMA's general body meeting held today in Kochi.
Although Mohanlal had initially expressed reluctance to continue as president, the organization collectively requested that the current ad hoc committee remain in charge and that Mohanlal continue to lead. Earlier reports had suggested that Mohanlal might be re-elected unopposed as president.
The annual general meeting, held at the Gokulam Convention Centre in Kaloor, also reportedly discussed decisions to be taken against drug use on film sets. It was also notable that actor Jagathy Sreekumar attended the AMMA meeting after 13 years. He was honored during the gathering.
