THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Tamil documentary Dalit Subbaiah, by Giridharan M.K.P., won the award for best long documentary at the 17th International Documentary and Short Film Festival. The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 2 lakh and a certificate. In the non-fiction category, Shiva Krish's "Amma's Pride" won the award for best short documentary, while Aditya Raj Bhargava's "Only to You, I Surrender" won the award in the feature category. Director Rakesh Sharma was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Sruthil Mathew's 'Ura' is the best campus film. In the short fiction category, Rayit Hashmat Qazi's 'An Orphanage of Memories' won second place and Abhilash Selvamani's 'Pechi' won a special mention. In the short documentary category, Omkar Khandagale's (Marathi) 'An Eventual Calamity of Time' won the second prize. This documentary also won the Kumar Talkies Award for Best Editing.
The second long documentary award went to Shankar Goud's 'Negative Remorse'. Shihab Ongallur's 'Ricard Dance' and Suhel Banerjee's CycleMahesh were awarded special jury mentions. The jury, headed by Gurvinder Singh and Ranjit Ray, selected the awardees. Ministers Saji Cherian and P. Prasad distributed the awards.
